As part of our ongoing mission to provide the best network for our customers, we have begun retiring our previous generation of routers and started the deployment of our new routing equipment, the Cisco Nexus 7000. This new equipment has been implemented in our Los Angeles location and is scheduled to be added to Chicago, Denver, and Amsterdam by the end of 2017.
With the new equipment, each location will have the ability to process 15 Terabit per second of data transmission. The new Cisco router supports up to 256 10G fully routed ports. Should more capacity be needed, we can rapidly implement another 168 10G ports. It is capable of almost 1 billion packets per second routed with up to 128,000 ACL entries and 880Gbps. This upgrade also allows for utilization of 40G and 100G interfaces.
Sharktech’s CEO and chief network engineer, Tim Timrawi, stated that Los Angeles customers are already reporting lower latency and jitter as well as shifting more of their traffic to our Los Angeles location. Equipment has shipped to implement this router upgrade in Chicago and a network maintenance announcement will occur shortly. Denver is slated to be the next upgraded point of presence and, finally, Amsterdam by year end.
As always, we love to hear your feedback. Feel free to reach out to us and let us know what performance increases you’ve felt!
